Welcome to the Newport Composite Squadron!
What is CAP?
CAP stands for the Civil Air Patrol, which serves as the
United States Airforce Auxiliary. We are broken into three
programs: the cadet program, emergency services, and aerospace
education. CAP is broken into 52 wings, one for each state,
the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, and Newport Composite
Squadron belongs to the Rhode Island Wing. For more information
e-mail Newportcomposite@yahoo.com.
When do you meet?
Newport Composite meets every Thursday night between 7:00pm
and 9:00pm at the Bristol Veterans home. There is a monthy
schedule posted on our online calendar.
How old do you have to be to join?
The cadet program is targeted towards people between the
ages of 12 and 21, however at the age of 18 you may become
a part of the senior member program. If you are soon turning
12 and are interested in our program, you are more then welcome
to visit our squadron and see what CAP has to offer you.
What if I don't want to join the military, can I
still join CAP?
A common misconception that people have is that we are only
for people joining the military. CAP caters to anyone who
is interested, and can help you in any career you
choose to go into. Although we work with many military professionals,
it is simply for educational purposes.
How much do uniforms cost?
When you join CAP you will be given a uniform sheet in which
you must fill out your size. National Headquaters will then
send you our short-sleeve blues uniform. For a BDU uniform
(the Battle Dress Uniform) you are free to take one for free
from our wing's supply closet. The only component of the uniform
that you will have to purchase yourself is boots and shoes
which can range from $30 to $180.
How difficult is the physical training?
Our PT (physical training) program is created to help you
perform at your best and to continuously improve your physical
condition. You will work at your own pace and at your own
level. PT allows you to challenge yourself physically, however
we do not allow you to overwork your body. Although PT is
an important component for promotions, we focus more on effort
then ability.
What activities do you do outside of the squadron?
Some activites that we do at the wing level can be seen by
