Airshow:
The 2005 Quonset Airshow has been successfully raising money
for various organizations for the past 13 years, while simultaneously
allowing the public to view one of the largest air shows in
the Northeast. The Airshow, hosted by the Rhode Island National
Guard, included participants such as the Blue Angels and Canadian
Paratroopers. It was an honor for Civil Air Patrol’s
services to be requested for this activity.
Rhode Island Wing’s involvement in the Airshow proved
to be a huge success. Cadets from RI, NY, MA, and CT all
came together in an effort of volunteer services to aid
in ground control and various other aspects of the show.
Cadets were separated into flights which rotated throughout
the day to several different aircraft stations. Their tasks
were to oversee safety conditions, monitor crowd activity,
and become more familiar with the Airforce environment.
Cadets were also placed on support staff positions to assist
with communications, logistics, public affairs, and recruiting.
During down time, cadets slept on base and worked on basic
CAP fundamentals such as drill and military courtesies.
CAP members and civilians alike were astonished by the impressive
show. The event was completed on June 19th, and after two
days of hard work cadets were congratulated by high ranking
military officers, thanking CAP on a job well done. Cadets
left the airshow with more knowledge of CAP activities and
a higher understanding of military aircrafts.
