Duties and Responsibilities
Assistant element leader-help element leader, take over when element
leader is absent, help train element, check attendance, ensure that
members test, and train new cadets

Integrity
-sticking to a code of moral values, honesty, doing what is right
Attitude
-state of mind that lies behind actions, so it needs to be positive
Discipline
-self-discipline (taught by drill, customs, courtesies) leads to
group discipline of
high, attainable standards
Loyalty
-loyalty must be earned, but unquestioned loyalty is bad
Courtesy
-way of showing politeness and personal recognition
-helps develop esprit de corps aka group morale
-Ex. using sir or ma'am & saluting
Communication
-transfer of an idea from a sender to a receiver through a medium
-3 approaches to communication
-self action: communication as the act of transferring
thoughts or ideas into the
minds of others
-interaction: this recognizes the role you play in receiving
communication (one
message influences the next)
-transaction: this focuses on sharing a meaning and getting
feedback
-goal of communication is to share meaning, and it happens when
you react to a stimulus
-four elements of communication
-communicator-receiver: have good attitude & use vocab.
appropriate to audience
-message symbols: verbal and non-verbal
-receiver: how well you communicate depends on how predictably
receiver reacts
-feedback: lets you know how audience is adapting to you

Flags in Civil Air Patrol
-CAPR 900-2: national flag, region and wing flag, squadron
flag, guidon, pennant
-salute flag from 6 paces away
Saluting During the National Anthem or To the Colors
-when in uniform in formation: “present arms”
-when in uniform but not in formation: at attention, face flag,
salute
-when in uniform indoors: stand at attention (in civies: hand over
heart)
